Day 2: Hanoi/Halong Bay – VIOLET CRUISE (B, L, D, GP, G on board)

Around 09.00am, you’ll leave for Ha Long Bay, one of the most spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Areas and the world’s largest marine limestone ‘karst’ landscape. There you’ll board a wooden junk and enjoy a delicious lunch served on board as you cruise to the world heritage area. You will arrive at the area of Cua Van floating fishing village to explore Tien Ong cave, and the floating fishing village. Tien Ong is the most recently explored cave. It shows evidences of human civilization dating back to 10,000 – 8,000 BC. The cave is just 5 meters above sea level, 50 meters deep and covers 1000 square meters. Our guide takes you on a loop though the cave and explains about the historical findings and the cave’s particularities. The voyage continues to the fishing village by small bamboo boat rowed by the local people.s

After returning to the boat you will sail to the overnight mooring area Luom Bo. During this time Halong Bay reveals its most magnificent beauty – we call it the “blue hour”. Rewind on the sun deck with a drink of your choice and let the moment sink in.

In the afternoon you can enjoy a Vietnamese cooking class performance by your on board chef, and enjoy a drink at the bar or kick back for a soothing massage. Lunch and dinner are served amid wood-panelled elegance on board your boat. The route is designed to avoid busy areas, and you will anchor for the night at a quiet location perfect for stargazing.

For your Ha Long excursion, you’ll board the Violet Cruise, one of the best of luxury wooden boats on the bay. It’s a wooden junk based on the model of the old Vietnamese court vessels with two barge sails, a wide transom and rectangular superstructure. The Violet boat’s route is for two days only, starting from noon of the first day to noon of following day. If you book a three-day cruise on the bay, you’ll be transferred to your day–trip boat named “Sunset”. Breakfast will be served as the boat sets sail for the Surprise cave. Once back on the Sunset take some time to relax while the boat take you to discover the further hidden charms of Halong Bay. The cliffs stretch vertically out of the water and you feel a sense of freedom meandering through this green medley of water and tree-topped islets.

Back on board lunch is served in the restaurant. Sunset boat continues the journey to a floating Pearl farm. Halong Bay is also a place where pearls are cultivated. In a small factory we learn how pearls are harvested and processed. After the visit we leisurely sail back to the mother ship. Back “home” you have time for spa or sunbathing while we sail to the overnight night spot.

The smaller boat’s facilities are limited and at a lower standard when compared to the Violet, but you’ll have its exclusive use to cruise around the further reaches of the bay well away from the tourist area.

Day 5: Hanoi/ Phu Quoc Island (B, DP)

Day 6 to Day 7: Phu Quoc free days (B)

Your time will be your own to relax on the beach or whatever takes your fancy!

Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island, surrounded by white beaches lined with coconut palms. The island is 50 km long (north to south) and 25 km wide (east to west) at its widest point. It is blessed with a rich natural environment, with 37,000 hectares of virgin forest, white sandy beaches, coral gardens offshore, and a variety of wildlife species.

Many visitors come just to chill out on the beach. However, there are loads of other interesting things to see, such as pearl farms, waterfalls and gaudy temples. The markets are always an entertaining combination of chaos and fun, be it day or night. In Phu Quoc, you can hunt for crabs or squid, or scuba dive at the coral reefs. You might spot the rare and mysterious dugong, which reportedly swims in these waters. If you can’t scuba dive you can always snorkel instead, or hire a motorbike and explore the island.

Day 6 to Day 7: Con Dao Island free days (B)

Your time will be your own!

The remote Con Dao Archipelago includes 16 mountainous islands and islets  with a local population of around 5,000. The main island, Con Son, was the site of a much-feared, notorious prison during colonial times and up until 1975. There are some beautiful beaches on Con Son, and clear water with pristine coral offer great opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Some beaches can be reached on foot, but the better locations involve a long hike or hiring a motorbike. There are many secluded beaches on the other islands. Most of the archipelago is now a national park, lush tropical forest filled with flowers and coconut groves. In season, visitors can see rare sea turtles lay their eggs on the islands’ remote beaches, while dolphins live offshore. Con Dao is definitely a place for nature lovers, and also an opportunity to visit an unspoilt tropical island before development. There is little doubt that it will soon become a popular destination, so if you want peace and solitude in a pristine setting, now is the time to go. The islands have also attracted a few stars – Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt spent some holiday time there in 2011.

Day 8: Con Dao/ Ho Chi Minh City departure (B, DP)

Your time will be your own until your car and driver arrive to transfer you to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City, in good time to connect with your international departure flight.
