About This Tour

Discover Vietnam from north to south on a twenty-one-day private journey that combines cultural highlights with a relaxing beach finish in Mui Ne. Start in Hanoi, take a boat through the limestone scenery of Ninh Binh and spend a night on a licensed cruise in Ha Long and Lan Ha Bay. An overnight train brings you towards Sa Pa for guided village walks, terraced valleys and mountain views before the journey continues south.

Explore Hue’s imperial heritage, Hoi An’s merchant streets and a local cooking experience, then fly to Ho Chi Minh City for history, street food and a Mekong Delta day trip. The itinerary balances active days with time to recover: a free day in Hanoi and four nights on the Mui Ne coast offer flexibility to enjoy beach walks, swimming where conditions permit or optional sand-dune excursions.

Haivenu arranges private ground travel, local guides, domestic flights, train tickets and the chosen cruise and hotels around your travel dates. Sa Pa walks, cruise activities, Mekong boating and beach experiences follow operator safety rules and seasonal conditions. Your final written proposal confirms accommodation standards, exact meal inclusions, ticket classes, connections and the price before any booking is made.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

A flexible outline of your private Vietnam journey.

Day 1Arrive in Hanoi – Private Welcome

Meet the agreed driver or guide at Noi Bai International Airport for the private transfer to your confirmed Hanoi hotel. Hotel check-in depends on the flight arrival and property policy. Enjoy a short independent walk around Hoan Kiem Lake or the Old Quarter if there is enough time, or rest after your journey. The evening is deliberately light before the coming cultural and nature days. Discuss dietary needs, your preferred walking pace, railway arrangements and any mobility or room requirements with the local team.

Overnight: Hanoi hotel – night 1 of 20

Meals: Arrival-day meals only if specified in the accepted quote

Places: Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi → Hanoi

Day 2Hanoi – Heritage, Art and Northern Food

Explore a manageable selection of Hanoi heritage sites with an English-speaking guide, such as the Temple of Literature, Vietnam Fine Arts Museum and Tran Quoc Pagoda, subject to opening hours. Take time for a booked street-food tasting in the Old Quarter, with dietary alternatives agreed in advance. The original passenger motorbike experience is optional and never required; a private car and short guided walks are suitable alternatives. A water-puppet show can be included if the performance and ticket are confirmed. View Long Bien Bridge only from safe authorised public areas, and return to the hotel for the night.

Overnight: Hanoi hotel – night 2 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and booked guided lunch or food tasting; other meals as quoted

Places: Hanoi → Hanoi

Day 3Ninh Binh – Hoa Lu and Tam Coc Day Trip

Travel privately south from Hanoi to Ninh Binh for a guided visit to the ancient capital area of Hoa Lu and a licensed rowboat excursion around Tam Coc when water conditions and local boat services allow. Admire the karst formations and seasonal paddies from public viewpoints and allow time for a booked regional lunch. Cycling through the countryside is optional and can be replaced by a private vehicle. An ascent at Hang Mua involves many steps and is optional according to fitness, opening and weather conditions. Return to the same Hanoi hotel in the evening without adding further compulsory sightseeing.

Overnight: Hanoi hotel – night 3 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and agreed Ninh Binh lunch; dinner as quoted

Places: Hanoi → Hanoi via Ninh Binh

Day 4Hanoi to Tuan Chau – Orchid Cruise on Lan Ha Bay

Drive privately or on the specifically booked cruise transfer from Hanoi to the operator's confirmed Tuan Chau Marina check-in point. Orchid Trendy is the preferred licensed overnight cruise, with actual cabin class and boarding details confirmed before payment. The operator's currently published two-day programme visits the Ao Ech area for kayaking on the first afternoon, then continues towards Tra Bau for its overnight anchorage, subject to port-authority and weather conditions. Enjoy the package's scheduled lunch, dinner and onboard activities following a crew safety briefing. The boat is shared unless an exclusive charter is expressly purchased.

Overnight: Orchid Trendy or agreed licensed overnight cruise – night 4 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast; cruise lunch and dinner under the selected operator package

Places: Hanoi → Ha Long / Lan Ha Bay cruise anchorage

Day 5Lan Ha Bay – Trung Trang Cave – Hanoi Overnight Train

Enjoy the cruise's early programme and breakfast, with the operator's current published itinerary proposing Trung Trang Cave on Cat Ba Island during the morning, followed by brunch and late-morning disembarkation at Tuan Chau. Cave access and steps may not suit everyone and the visit can change for safety. Return to Hanoi by confirmed transfer and allow sufficient time for dinner, baggage arrangements and the evening train to Lao Cai. A daytime refresh room is available only if it appears in the accepted booking. Board a booked sleeper berth; the actual train, cabin privacy and departure time must be confirmed.

Overnight: Confirmed sleeper-train berth – night 5 of 20

Meals: Cruise breakfast and brunch as booked; evening meal only if expressly included

Places: Ha Long / Lan Ha Bay cruise pier → Hanoi–Lao Cai overnight train

Day 6Lao Cai – Muong Hoa Valley – Hosted Village Stay

Arrive at Lao Cai railway station in the morning and meet the booked driver for a transfer towards the Sa Pa area. After an agreed breakfast or rest stop, meet a local guide for an adjustable walk through sections of the Muong Hoa Valley near Lao Chai or Ta Van. The original route continues towards a hosted stay in the Thanh Phu area only if walking logistics, weather and vehicle access make this practical after the sleeper train. Arrange any home visit with willing hosts and respect photography preferences. Stay in the confirmed community homestay or comparable lodge, with sleeping, bathroom facilities and meals explained in advance.

Overnight: Participating village homestay or lodge – night 6 of 20

Meals: Breakfast, local lunch and hosted dinner only where confirmed in the day plan

Places: Lao Cai railway station → Muong Hoa Valley / Thanh Phu area

Day 7Sa Pa Villages – Nam Toong and Ban Ho Options

Enjoy breakfast with the host, then choose an appropriate local guided walk through terraced countryside and agreed community paths towards the Ban Ho or Nam Toong areas. These routes may be steep or muddy; a shorter walk with vehicle support is available where practical. Meetings with Red Dao, Tay or other residents require a participating host's consent and should not be presented as staged performances. After lunch if booked, transfer to the confirmed Sa Pa hotel, check in and take the evening free. No fixed trekking distance or ascent is claimed until a guide has assessed the selected route and the group's fitness.

Overnight: Sa Pa hotel – night 7 of 20

Meals: Homestay breakfast and arranged lunch; dinner as quoted

Places: Village accommodation near Sa Pa → Sa Pa

Day 8Sa Pa – Optional Fansipan and Road Transfer to Hanoi

Enjoy a morning in Sa Pa with an optional Fansipan cable-car visit, subject to the current opening schedule, mountain weather and available tickets. Summit access can involve steps and additional transport, so it is not guaranteed for every traveller. Alternatively, choose a gentle Sa Pa stroll and an earlier departure. In the afternoon travel back to Hanoi by a confirmed limousine van or private road vehicle; the journey can take much of the afternoon or evening. Arrive at the booked Hanoi hotel the same day under the planned schedule, without promising extra sightseeing after a long drive.

Overnight: Hanoi hotel – night 8 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and any road-journey lunch only if listed in the confirmed quote

Places: Sa Pa → Hanoi

Day 9Hanoi – Open Day to Rest or Explore

Enjoy a free day in Hanoi after the Sa Pa and cruise segments. Choose your own pace for cafés, a museum visit when open, galleries, shops or a short stroll through the French Quarter. Optional guided activities and entrance tickets are separate unless already included in your accepted itinerary. This free day also provides useful flexibility should road or train disruptions affect the northern itinerary, although any rebooking costs depend on supplier terms. Have the hotel or local team reconfirm tomorrow's flight to Hue and your airport transfer. Overnight in the same Hanoi hotel.

Overnight: Hanoi hotel – night 9 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast if included in the room rate; other meals independently unless quoted

Places: Hanoi → Hanoi

Day 10Fly Hanoi to Hue – First Imperial City Visits

Transfer to Noi Bai Airport for the confirmed domestic flight to Phu Bai Airport in Hue, including baggage and local departure procedures. Meet the driver and travel to the booked Hue hotel. If the flight reaches Hue with enough daylight, enjoy a guided introduction to the Imperial Citadel or Dong Ba Market, depending on opening hours; these are not guaranteed after a late arrival. A hosted garden-house dinner may be reserved when a participating venue, menu and price are confirmed, but should not be assumed included. Keep the evening flexible after the airport and road transfers.

Overnight: Hue hotel – night 10 of 20

Meals: Hanoi hotel breakfast and Hue lunch or dinner only where specified in the quote

Places: Hanoi → Hue

Day 11Hue – Royal Tombs and Perfume River Heritage

Spend a guided day exploring selected Nguyen-dynasty heritage in Hue. Visit Thien Mu Pagoda, with a Perfume River boat outing included only if water levels, weather, permissions and the booked provider allow. Continue to one or two royal tombs such as Minh Mang or Khai Dinh according to their opening hours and a manageable pace, with a local lunch in the agreed plan. A private garden-house visit requires advance permission; do not assume every property is open to visitors. Return to the confirmed Hue hotel for a free evening.

Overnight: Hue hotel – night 11 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and booked heritage-day lunch; other meals as quoted

Places: Hue → Hue

Day 12Hue to Hoi An via Hai Van Pass and Da Nang

Travel privately from Hue towards Hoi An, crossing Hai Van Pass when conditions and local road access are safe. Stop at a suitable authorised viewpoint and, if opening hours allow, visit the Museum of Cham Sculpture in Da Nang before continuing south. Check into the confirmed Hoi An hotel and take a gentle guided introduction to the Ancient Town, its merchant houses and riverside streets, with admission where required. Avoid promising to cover every temple, bridge and hall after a full road journey. Enjoy the evening among the lantern-lit streets at your own pace.

Overnight: Hoi An hotel – night 12 of 20

Meals: Hue hotel breakfast and agreed transfer-day lunch; dinner independently unless booked

Places: Hue → Hoi An via Da Nang

Day 13Hoi An – Tra Que Herbs and Vietnamese Cooking

Enjoy a locally hosted cooking experience associated with the Tra Que herb-growing area, selected according to the operator's availability and the group's dietary needs. A guided market visit may precede the class where appropriate; the final provider and dishes are confirmed in writing. Cycling to the village is entirely optional, with private road transport offered instead when needed. Enjoy the prepared lunch if part of the booked workshop and keep the afternoon free for tailoring, galleries, cafés or a short beach excursion when conditions allow. Return to the same Hoi An hotel for the night.

Overnight: Hoi An hotel – night 13 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and cooking-class lunch where included; evening meal as quoted

Places: Hoi An → Hoi An

Day 14Fly Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City – Food Tasting

Enjoy breakfast and travel privately from Hoi An to Da Nang Airport for the booked domestic flight to Ho Chi Minh City. After landing at Tan Son Nhat, meet the local driver and check into your hotel. If the schedule permits, take a pre-arranged evening street-food tasting through suitable city districts. The original passenger scooter experience is optional only through an appropriately licensed operator and with suitable safety equipment; an on-foot or private-car alternative is standard. Food stops, dinner inclusions and any personal drinks must be named in the final itinerary. Return to the booked Ho Chi Minh City hotel.

Overnight: Ho Chi Minh City hotel – night 14 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and evening food-tasting meal only when included in the accepted plan

Places: Hoi An via Da Nang Airport → Ho Chi Minh City

Day 15Cu Chi Tunnels and Saigon's Historic Landmarks

Take a guided morning road excursion from Ho Chi Minh City to the Cu Chi Tunnels, learning about the war's history through authorised surface displays. Entering narrow tunnels is optional and can be unsuitable for some health, mobility or age needs. Return to the city for a booked lunch if included and choose one manageable heritage visit, such as Independence Palace, based on actual opening hours and timing. Notre-Dame Cathedral can be viewed from a permitted exterior area even when interior access is restricted. Keep the evening free for rest.

Overnight: Ho Chi Minh City hotel – night 15 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and planned guided-day lunch; dinner as quoted

Places: Ho Chi Minh City → Ho Chi Minh City

Day 16Mekong Delta – Guided Waterways and Local Life

Depart Ho Chi Minh City for a pre-arranged Mekong Delta day excursion, using private road transport plus a licensed local boat, or a speedboat only if the selected provider operates the proposed route safely. Focus on navigable waterways, regional food and a willing local craft or orchard host rather than guaranteeing multiple remote markets, religious sites and private houses in one day. Any pagoda visit follows visitor rules and the community's wishes; do not include orphanage visits or animal-handling stops as entertainment. After the booked regional lunch and a realistic return journey, spend the evening at your Ho Chi Minh City hotel.

Overnight: Ho Chi Minh City hotel – night 16 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and booked Mekong Delta lunch; other meals as agreed

Places: Ho Chi Minh City → Ho Chi Minh City via Mekong Delta

Day 17Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne – Coastal Hotel Arrival

Leave Ho Chi Minh City by private road vehicle for Mui Ne and the Phan Thiet coastline, using a confirmed route and allowing several hours for traffic and rest breaks. Mui Ne does not currently have a functioning passenger airport, so the coastal resort transfer is by road. Check into the pre-booked hotel or resort, with room category and meal plan stated in the accepted quotation. Spend the afternoon free by the pool or near the beach when conditions are safe. Water sports, special beach dinners and dune excursions are optional and not automatically included.

Overnight: Mui Ne resort – night 17 of 20

Meals: Hotel breakfast and transfer-day meals only as specified; dinner independently unless quoted

Places: Ho Chi Minh City → Mui Ne / Phan Thiet coast

Day 18Mui Ne – Beach and Pool Leisure

Enjoy a complete free day on the Mui Ne coast. Take advantage of the confirmed resort's facilities or relax in areas suitable for walking and swimming under current local sea-safety guidance. Wind, currents, seasonal shoreline erosion and resort-specific beach conditions may affect access, so a calm swimmable beach is not guaranteed at every property. You may book a spa treatment or a licensed water-sports lesson where conditions permit, with prices and operator safety standards agreed separately. Meals beyond the confirmed room rate are at your choice.

Overnight: Mui Ne resort – night 18 of 20

Meals: Resort breakfast if included; other dining and activities separately quoted

Places: Mui Ne resort → Mui Ne resort

Day 19Mui Ne – Optional Sand Dunes and Fairy Stream

Keep the day flexible for a guided visit to Mui Ne's red or white sand dunes, a permitted viewing area around the Fairy Stream or a local fishing harbour, subject to weather and site access. A sunrise or sunset vehicle excursion can be arranged with a licensed operator, while quad bikes or other high-speed dune activities are optional and require individual safety assessment and operator checks. Guests who prefer rest can remain at the beach resort. Return for an unhurried afternoon and third coastal evening after the Day 17 arrival.

Overnight: Mui Ne resort – night 19 of 20

Meals: Resort breakfast when included; optional excursion meals and other dining as booked

Places: Mui Ne resort → Mui Ne resort

Day 20Mui Ne – Final Full Beach Retreat Day

Enjoy the last full day by the sea without compulsory sightseeing. Relax at the resort, visit a suitable local café or choose a short guided culinary or cultural experience if it has been booked. Swimming and water sports remain subject to local conditions and safe designated areas. Use the afternoon to prepare for departure, and ask the local team to reconfirm tomorrow's private road transfer to Tan Son Nhat Airport. International flights should be scheduled with generous time for the journey from the coast, traffic and check-in procedures, or an extra Ho Chi Minh City overnight can be quoted separately.

Overnight: Mui Ne resort – night 20 of 20

Meals: Resort breakfast under the booked rate; optional activities and other meals at own expense unless included

Places: Mui Ne resort → Mui Ne resort

Day 21Mui Ne to Ho Chi Minh City – International Departure

Check out of the confirmed resort after breakfast if included and travel by private vehicle to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. Allow ample time for the substantial coastal road journey, potential traffic, rest stops and airline check-in. A stop at Po Shanu Cham Towers is possible only if the flight timing and site access permit; it is not a fixed inclusion. If a safe same-day international departure cannot be achieved, arrange a separate overnight city stay and revised quote instead of making an unrealistic transfer promise. The twenty-one-day tour ends at the agreed airport.

Overnight: Tour ends; no twenty-first overnight included

Meals: Resort breakfast if included; other meals only as pre-arranged

Places: Mui Ne / Phan Thiet coast → Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Ho Chi Minh City

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does this 21-day Vietnam tour start and end?

The planned private journey starts with arrival in Hanoi and ends with a road transfer from Mui Ne to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Day 21. International flights are arranged separately unless included in the accepted quote.

How are the twenty nights allocated?

Five nights are in Hanoi on Days 1–3 and 8–9, one is aboard the bay cruise, one on the overnight train, one at a Sa Pa-area homestay, one at a Sa Pa hotel, two in Hue, two in Hoi An, three in Ho Chi Minh City and four in Mui Ne.

Is this a private tour or a group departure?

Land transfers and agreed sightseeing are arranged for a private party of two to twelve. The overnight cruise runs with other passengers and a sleeper-train compartment or shared limousine transfer may be shared unless private use is specifically purchased.

Which domestic flights are included in the proposed route?

The plan requires Hanoi–Hue and Da Nang–Ho Chi Minh City flights. The airline, baggage, fare conditions, dates and any required connection changes are confirmed in the final quotation.

Does the Orchid Trendy cruise go to Lan Ha Bay?

The proposed 2-day/1-night licensed Orchid programme sails through Ha Long and Lan Ha Bay. Current published activities include Ao Ech on Day 4 and Trung Trang Cave on Day 5, but actual sailing and excursions may change for weather or harbour rules.

Will we have a private sleeper-train cabin to Lao Cai?

The default package is a booked sleeper berth in a specified compartment class, not a guaranteed exclusive four-berth cabin. A private compartment can be requested and quoted if the train operator has suitable availability.

How demanding are the Sa Pa trekking days?

The overall rating is Moderate because some village paths are steep, uneven or muddy. Your local guide will agree walking routes and appropriate vehicle support after reviewing fitness, weather and access permissions.

Can we reach Fansipan and Hanoi on the same day?

It may be feasible with an early Fansipan visit and a later road transfer, but mountain visibility, cable-car operations and road travel time vary. The Fansipan visit is optional and must not make the return to Hanoi unsafe or excessively rushed.

Are hotel rooms and a refresh room provided after the cruise?

Hotel rooms for the confirmed thirteen or more hotel nights are included according to the accepted accommodation list. A temporary refresh room between cruise disembarkation and the night train is only provided if explicitly booked.

Are motorbike rides in Hanoi and Saigon compulsory?

No. Passenger motorbike activities can be requested through suitably licensed operators, with helmets and age or safety limits checked. Guided walking and private-car alternatives are offered instead.

Is the Mekong Delta speedboat excursion guaranteed?

No. The final quote specifies the chosen licensed boat or road-and-boat excursion, pier, route, weather conditions and any included lunch. A speedboat is not automatically part of the trip and home or religious-site visits require permission.

How many full days are available at Mui Ne?

Day 17 is the arrival day, Days 18–20 are three complete free beach days, and Day 21 is the road-transfer departure day. The plan includes four nights at the confirmed Mui Ne resort.

Can we swim or take a dune quad-bike trip at Mui Ne?

Beach swimming depends on wind, currents, shoreline and the selected hotel's safe-access rules. Quad-bike or kitesurfing activities require a suitable licensed or qualified provider, extra payment and safety checks; neither is a compulsory tour inclusion.

Is it realistic to drive from Mui Ne to the international airport on Day 21?

The trip normally takes several hours by road and may be longer with traffic. The driver and flight schedule must allow enough time for stops, airport check-in and contingencies; an extra Ho Chi Minh City night should be quoted for unsuitable connections.

How do we request the final private 21-day quotation?

Share your travel dates, number of guests, fitness level, room and cruise preferences, dietary needs, Mui Ne beach priorities and international flight timings. Haivenu will confirm trains, flights, activities, hotel rooms, the meal plan, price and cancellation terms before booking.
