What makes this private journey memorable
Explore Hanoi's art heritage with a local guide and time for the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum.
Discover Van Phuc silk village and the cultural context of its weaving traditions.
Choose a pre-booked Vun Art fabric-reuse workshop with participating artisans when available.
Learn the principles of Vietnamese lacquer art during an introductory session if confirmed.
Enjoy private transport between Hanoi and Sa Pa with realistic travel times and rest stops.
Discover Sa Pa's landscapes and community life at a flexible, respectful pace.
Explore northern Vietnam through the people and skills behind its art. This private four-day journey begins in Hanoi, where museums, living craft traditions and the city’s creative communities reveal different chapters of Vietnamese cultural history. It then moves into the hills around Sa Pa for a quieter encounter with mountain landscapes and local village life.
Near Hanoi, Van Phuc’s silk heritage offers a window into weaving and textile design. An advance-booked visit to Vun Art may introduce a different form of creativity: pictures and objects made from leftover fabric by skilled makers. A separate lacquer-art introduction can explain a demanding traditional technique without promising that a finished lacquer painting can be made in a single session.
The highland portion places equal importance on thoughtful cultural encounters and realistic travel time. Visits to communities are planned with local hosts rather than staged as performances, and specific weekly markets are never guaranteed without matching the departure date. This tour suits couples, families and small private groups interested in art, craftsmanship and regional culture, with adjustable walking, hotel choices and activities confirmed before booking.

A flexible outline of your private Vietnam journey.
Meet your local guide at the agreed Hanoi hotel or pickup point, ideally in the morning if you want a full sightseeing programme. Discover Vietnamese artistic traditions at the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum and, if timings allow, the Temple of Literature and nearby Craft Link shop. Enjoy a guided walk through selected Old Quarter streets, with time for rest and respectful photography. An evening water-puppet performance is optional unless it is expressly booked and included; late arrivals may need a shorter programme. Transfer back to your Hanoi hotel.
Overnight: Hanoi hotel – night 1 of 3
Meals: Meals only when itemised in the agreed quotation
Places: Hanoi (confirmed hotel or pickup point) → Hanoi
Travel to Van Phuc silk village in Hanoi's Ha Dong area to learn about silk weaving, traditional textiles and local artisan livelihoods. If arranged in advance, join Vun Art for a guided fabric-collage or creative reuse session, typically lasting around one to one and a half hours according to the chosen programme. Continue to an advance-booked lacquer art introduction in the Tay Ho area, where you can learn about the materials and layering process. This is an introductory experience, not a promise of completing and taking home a fully finished lacquer painting in a single sitting. Specific providers, workshop fees, schedules and transport are confirmed before departure. Return to Hanoi for your second night.
Overnight: Hanoi hotel – night 2 of 3
Meals: Hotel breakfast if included; other meals as quoted
Places: Hanoi → Hanoi
Leave Hanoi by the confirmed private road transfer and travel north to Sa Pa. Allow roughly five to six hours in normal conditions, plus rest stops and any traffic or weather delays. After checking in, take a gentle walk through the town or visit a local textile shop or community venue if daylight, opening times and your energy allow. A regional ethnic market can be proposed only when its actual weekday and detour fit the departure date; remote markets are not a guaranteed stop on this transfer day. Enjoy a relaxed evening in Sa Pa.
Overnight: Sa Pa hotel or lodge – night 3 of 3
Meals: Hotel breakfast if included; other meals as quoted
Places: Hanoi → Sa Pa
After breakfast, enjoy a short guided encounter in the Sa Pa area, such as a visit to a participating local village or artisan household, according to host availability and the group's walking ability. Roads and footpaths may be uneven or slippery; a gentler roadside or town-based alternative can be requested. Return to Sa Pa to collect luggage, then leave for Hanoi by private road transfer. Allow approximately five to six hours plus stops for the return, so arrival will generally be later in the day and there is no additional full sightseeing programme in Hanoi. Finish at the agreed Hanoi hotel or drop-off point; any onward airport transfer must be confirmed separately.
Overnight: Tour ends in Hanoi; no fourth overnight included
Meals: Hotel breakfast if included; other meals as quoted
Places: Sa Pa → Hanoi (agreed drop-off point)
Practical details for your private journey
Agreed Hanoi hotel or another confirmed Hanoi meeting point on Day 1
The written quotation will disclose the applicable deadlines, charges and any non-refundable rooms, transfers, tickets or workshops before payment. The accepted booking agreement and supplier rules govern changes.
Refunds, where applicable, depend on the personalised agreement and the cancellation conditions of confirmed hotels, guides, workshop operators and transport suppliers; no fixed universal amount is promised.
Bad weather, fog and road conditions may affect the Hanoi–Sa Pa transfers and village paths. The guide and transport provider may suggest safer routes, reduced walking or an alternative visit, subject to confirmed supplier terms.
The standard proposed itinerary begins at an agreed Hanoi meeting point on Day 1 and finishes in Hanoi on Day 4. Airport transfers or extra nights are not automatic and can be quoted separately.
Three nights: Hanoi after Days 1 and 2, and Sa Pa after Day 3. The tour finishes in Hanoi on Day 4 without a fourth overnight.
Plan for roughly five to six hours each way in usual conditions, plus rest stops. Traffic, fog or mountain weather may extend the trip.
Only if a specific market operates on the travel date and its detour fits the agreed journey. Many highland markets open on particular weekdays and are far from the main Hanoi–Sa Pa road, so a market visit is not guaranteed.
A fabric-collage or creative reuse session may be arranged in Van Phuc on Day 2, subject to the operator's availability, group capacity and fees. It is included only if named in the written quote.
A brief lacquer session is a practical introduction. Traditional lacquer work involves multiple layers and drying stages, so completion or same-day collection of a finished painting should not be assumed.
The museum is a proposed Hanoi stop, subject to opening times and the group's arrival schedule. Admission and guide services are included only if specified in the confirmed quotation.
No specific person is guaranteed. The participating instructor or artisan, workshop address and appointment are confirmed with the local provider before booking.
The proposed standard arrangement is a private group of two to twelve travellers. Workshop places, vehicle capacity and room configuration are checked individually before confirmation.
The programme is moderate overall because some village paths are uneven or steep, though the planned walk can be shortened. Please share mobility needs, especially for older travellers or families with small children.
Families can request age-appropriate workshops, but children must follow the provider's safety rules when handling cutting tools, paints or lacquer materials. Age limits and supervision are confirmed before payment.
Your guide and driver may shorten village walking, replace an outdoor activity with an accessible cultural visit or adjust road travel for safety. Any charges or refunds follow the written booking terms.
Spring and early autumn often suit mixed Hanoi and Sa Pa visits, but there is no weather guarantee. Sa Pa can be cold and foggy in winter and wet in summer, so flexible clothing and plans are advisable.
Only services expressly listed in the final personalised quote are included. Water puppetry, additional workshop supplies and meals may be optional, so please check the written inclusions before booking.
Share your preferred dates, number and ages of travellers, hotel standard, craft interests and any walking restrictions. Haivenu will confirm the provider appointments, transfers, inclusions, total price and cancellation terms in writing.
